New crown virus: the first death in Europe
A Chinese tourist infected with the new coronavirus died in France, the first case of the disease outside Asia. |
According to French Health Minister
Agnes Bouzin, the deceased was an 80-year-old man from Hubei Province,
China. He arrived in France on 16 January and received isolation treatment
at a Paris hospital on 25 January.
The French health minister said the
deceased was rescued at Vicat Hospital in northern Paris during his
lifetime. He died of a lung infection from a coronavirus.
Ms. Bujin said the man's daughter was
also among the infected, but she was recovering.
Previously, there were only three
death reports outside China, in Hong Kong, the Philippines and Japan.
However, outside mainland China,
there are currently more than 500 cases in 25 countries.
In late January, France became the
first European country to diagnose a case of the virus formally known as
Covid-19.
There are currently 11 confirmed
cases in France, of which 6 are still in hospitals.

Kingdom
In addition, British health officials
contacted hundreds of people who attended the British Bus Summit in London last
week after a participant was diagnosed with a coronavirus after the meeting.
British media reported that the
confirmed person, who had no current identity, was at the UK Bus Summit last
week at the QEII Conference Centre in central London.
About 250 people, including Baroness
Villa, Secretary of State for Public Transport and some members of the House of
Commons, attended the summit on February 6.
Many people currently attending the
summit have begun to isolate themselves, just in case, including two members of
the Labour House of Commons.

Nine confirmed and eight recovered
So far, 9 cases have been confirmed
in the UK, and 8 of them have been discharged after treatment.
NHS England said the eight had been
discharged from hospital after two negative sampling tests.
The first 94 people who withdrew from
the UK to Wuhan have also all left the quarantine area in northeast England,
where they were quarantined for two weeks after returning to the UK.
In addition, more than 100 Britons
who were subsequently withdrawn from China were still in quarantine.
Africa
At the same time, Egyptian officials
notified the first confirmed case of coronavirus on the African continent on
February 15 and are quarantining cases in hospitals.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health said
in a statement that the patients were foreigners but did not specify
nationality.
After Africa confirmed the first
imported new crown epidemic, experts worry that Africa's current epidemic
situation is severe.
As of February 15, more than 1,500
people have died of the virus in China, most of which occurred in Hubei, where
the epidemic first appeared.
At present, the total number of
confirmed cases of viral infection in China has reached 66,580, with nearly
9,000 suspected cases.
Japan
The most concentrated outbreak
outside mainland China was the Cruise Diamond Princess near Japan.
Earlier, the United States said it
would send a plane to Japan to evacuate Americans stranded on the Diamond
Princess cruise ship.
Of the 3,700 people on board, 218 are
currently positive for the virus.
Australia has also said that it is
considering taking its citizens away from the ship.
