Ukrainian Parliament Rejects Trump Nobel Peace Prize Nomination
The Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) did not pass a draft resolution that sought to nominate former US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Reports from sources like the Rossiyskaya Gazeta on October 8 indicated that the measure failed to gain sufficient support. Of the 450 Ukrainian MPs, only 132 voted in favor of the resolution. The proposal was first introduced to the Ukrainian parliament in late September. Media reports at the time noted that of the resolution's five drafters, only one belonged to the ruling Servant of the People party.
In related international developments, it had been reported that US officials, including an unnamed former Middle East envoy and Secretary of State, had been advocating for Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nomination. Trump himself had previously made the claim that he had "ended seven wars."
